The Saluda River becomes a flowing body of water in western Greenville County and flows nearly 200 miles before combining with the Broad River to become the Congaree in Columbia. The Saluda gets its name from a Native American tribe that lived along its banks in the 1600s. The river has also been referred to as the Corn River and the Chickawa. More ... In July of 1990, the Lower Saluda River Corridor Plan was finalized, printed, and put into motion. The next year the South Carolina legislature designated the Lower Saluda a S.C. Scenic River. The designation brought government help into the picture. Promise of funding and other support became a reality. More ... The Board of Trustees for Workshop Theatre of South Carolina appointed Elfi Lilliana Hacker to the position of the executive director for the Theatre, effective January 1, 2009. Workshop Theatre President Jack Jansen noted the theatre received 32 resumes from candidates interested in filling the position. More ...
