Cardinals 49, Crusaders 33

On Friday, November 21 three Cardinal Newman players finished with double digit point totals as the Cardinals defeated Shannon Forest 49- 33. Jake Motto led Cardinal Newman in scoring with 14, while Zach Hrovat and Twan Alewine each chipped in with 11 and 10 points respectively. Despite a slow start, the Cardinals were able to storm back led by a strong defensive performance.

Shannon Forest was spotted an early 4- 0 lead. However, three point shots from Alewine and Ryan Zurcher, along with a near half court shot by Hrovat gave Cardinal Newman a 13- 9 lead at the end of the first quarter.

The Cardinals scored the last 12 points of the second quarter to take a 31- 16 lead as the game reached half time.

The Cardinals opened the third quarter with an 11- 0 run. However, the Crusaders fought back to end the quarter with a 6- 0 run to cut the lead to 42- 22.

Hrovat scored five points in the fourth, and the Cardinals weathered a small Shannon Forest rally to post an impressive win. The Cardinals used a strong defense, which forced the Crusaders into 13 turnovers, to get some easy buckets and to help them pull away.
