Miss Merry and Mr. Barden exchange vows

Mrs. Daniel Franklin Barden Mrs. Daniel Franklin Barden Susan Milliken Merry and Daniel Franklin Barden were married November 22, 2008, at the home of her parents, Dr. and Mrs. Richard Earl Umbach. The 5:30 pm ceremony was performed by the Rev. Charles Meyer Davis Jr.

The bride is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Franklin Milliken and the late Mr. and Mrs. William Arnold Umbach Sr. of Auburn, Alabama. She is a graduate of Heathwood Hall Episcopal School, and she attended Converse College. She is a cum laude graduate of the University of South Carolina where she earned a BS degree in psychology with a minor in elementary education. She also earned a masters in arts and teaching with honors in early childhood education from USC. She is currently teaching at Heathwood Hall Episcopal School.

The bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Stephen Franklin Barden. He is the grandson of Mrs. Curtis O'Dell Coleman Sr. and the late Mr. Coleman, Mr. and Mrs. Claude Franklin Barden of Lexington, South Carolina, and the late Mrs. Rachel Abbott Barden. The bridegroom is a graduate of USC with a BS degree in business administration with an emphasis in accounting. He is currently an accountant with Grant Thornton, LLP.

The maid of honor was Grace Taylor Merry, and the matron of honor was Mrs. Nancy Merry Sammataro, sisters of the bride. The attendants were Mrs. Katherine Renninger Bunch, Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Gallogly Dawson, Mrs. Catherine Peele Fairfield, Mrs. Lacey Taylor Smith, and Mrs. Patricia Morris Yount. The flower girl was Lucile Milliken Sammataro, and the ceremony bell ringer was Brooke Milliken Merry, both nieces of the bride.

The bridegroom's father served as the best man. The groomsmen were Walter Davies Merry IV, Alexander Hayes Umbach, William Montgomery Umbach, all brothers of the bride, and Carmelo Barone Sammataro, brother- in- law of the bride. Also serving as groomsmen and ushers were Charles Morris Biber, Gregory Bell Foster, Matthew John Probst, Luke Christopher Fancher, and Neal Hyatt Shelley. Bayden Umbach Merry, nephew of the bride, was a junior groomsmen, and William Frances Lamar III served as senior usher.

A reception followed at the home.

After their wedding trip, the couple will reside in Columbia.
