The Knights of Columbus conducted a Flag Retirement Ceremony at St. John Neumann School on Veteran's Day, November 11, 2008, with the entire school in attendance. Members of Joseph Cardinal Bernardin Assembly 2902 assembled in full color corps regalia on the school grounds at 2 pm to conduct the retirement ceremony in honor of the men and women who have served our country and the flag for which they have fought to keep us all free.

The students of St. John Neumann School participated in the ceremony

by singing America

the Beautiful, and the

National Anthem.

In addition, retired Army Colonel John Paolucci made a short presentation on what the stars, stripes, and colors of the flag represent. At the conclusion of the ceremony, the unserviceable flags were properly destroyed.

After the ceremony, Patrick Kane, Faithful Navigator of the Knights of Columbus made a special presentation to Gayle Mitchiner, assistant principal of the school, of a Plaque containing a United States Flag that had been flown over Afghanistan during Operation Enduring Freedom VII by The United Stated Army.
