Ancient Rome comes to Center for Knowledge
      As a culminating activity to a Hirsch unit on Ancient Rome, the third graders at the Center for Knowledge participated in Roman games during recess, had a Roman feast during lunch, and made oral presentations on Ancient Rome research completed in class on October 22.

Carolina Wildlife Care announces 20th anniversary logo competition for kids
      Carolina Wildlife Care is having an art competition for kids to design a logo celebrating the wildlife center's 20th anniversary of saving wildlife. Children in grades K through eighth from Richland and Lexington counties are eligible to submit an original drawing they feel best expresses the wild and wonder of wildlife living in their own backyards or neighborhood.

Local rider attains "A" rating
      Palmetto Pony Club recently announced the uprating of Helen Harvey Laffitte from H- A to A at a testing held in July in Aiken, South Carolina. Helen, 21, is the daughter of Drs. Helen and Tucker Laffitte of Columbia. To earn the rating, Helen passed an examination that tested horsemanship skills and knowledge.

Bridge Creek Elementary hosts National Storytelling Champion
      Rixon Lane, an 11th grade student at Woodruff High School, was the guest presenter for National Red Ribbon Week. Lane has been telling stories since he was three years old. He developed his storytelling skills by listening to CDs of other tellers and by practicing on his family and friends.
