Skyhawks cruise, Falcons fly, and Highlanders halted
SCISA 3A FOOTBALL PLAYOFFS - FIRST ROUND
      Hammond 34 Porter- Gaud 6 The Hammond Skyhawks began playoff action with a 34- 6 stomping of the visiting Porter- Gaud Cyclones Friday, November 7, and it wasn't that close. An earlier late September meeting this season was a much more competitive game. The Skyhawks came out on top 29- 21, but this contest was over by halftime.

Former Devil named All- CIAA
      Former Dreher standout and Saint Paul's College freshman running- back Nicholas Bethea has been named to the 2008 CIAA Football All- Rookie Team as voted on by the CIAA Sports Information Directors' Association. Bethea, a week- five Rookie of the Week, was named to the team after posting a career high in rushing yards in just his second collegiate game.

Battery Creek 24 Airport 39
      The Airport Eagles jumped out to an early 14- 0 lead over Battery Creek and held on to defeat the Dolphins 39- 24 in the first round of the 3A state playoffs on November 7.

      Two Gamecock legends, former voice of the Gamecocks Bob Fulton and former head coach Paul Dietzel, got together in the press box at Williams- Brice Stadium during the USC- Arkansas game to discuss old times.

Holler- ing for USC equestrian
      Logan Holler has been training in equestrian since she was four- years- old and on Wednesday, November 12 it paid off. Holler became the first student at A.C. Flora to earn a scholarship in equestrian.

Local standouts receive all- star selections
      A.C. Flora receiver Carlos McCoy was selected to play for the North in the 2008 SCADA North- South All Star Football game to be played December 13 at 12 pm at Doug Shaw Memorial Stadium in Myrtle Beach. He is joined on the team by Columbia linebacker Lorenzo Boyles, and Spring Valley offensive lineman Grant King.

CLASS 3A GIRLS TENNIS CHAMPIONSHIPS
      On paper, the Upper State Championship between the J.L. Mann Patriots and the A.C. Flora Falcons at the Lexington County Tennis Complex Friday, November 7 was a bit of a mismatch. The Patriots came to Lexington as defending Upper State champions and had won a state championship in 2006.

      The Mid- Carolina Rebels advanced to the second round of the playoffs with a 21- 2 win over the Keenan Raiders at Bolden Stadium on Friday, November 7. Mid- Carolina 21 Keenan 2 The Rebels used a strong running attack to overpower the Raider defense.
