Sandra Thornton Watts
A memorial service for Sandra Thornton Watts, 72, was held Monday at 4 pm at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel. The family received friends at the residence of Dr. and Mrs. Roger Sawyer following the service
Mrs. Watts died Friday, October 31, 2008. Born in Charlotte, North Carolina, she was a daughter of the late Atticus Granville Thornton and Laura Welsh Duncan Thornton. Following a career at SCETV, she was employed at the University of South Carolina until she retired in 2000. She was a member and former president of the Columbia League of Women Voters. She also volunteered as a Cub Scout pack leader and was a loyal Gamecock fan. She loved to travel, enjoyed watching movies at the Nickelodeon Theatre, and vacationing at Ocracoke with her family.
Surviving are her son and daughter- in- law, Henry F. Watts Jr. and Darcy Watts of Atlanta, Georgia, and "granddogs", Gigi and Del; sisters and brothers- in- law, Laura Thornton Puterbaugh of San José, California and her children, Mac and Alice Jones of Morgan Hills, California and Sandie Jones of Sunnyvale, California; Evelyn Thornton Reavis and Gary Reavis of Hilton Head Island and their children, Phil and Jancy Reavis of Roswell, Georgia, and Mary Beth Thornton Sawyer and Dr. Roger Sawyer of Columbia and their children, Melissa Sawyer and Lizzy Sawyer, all of Columbia; and special friend and "traveling buddy," Don McNeish.
A very special appreciation is extended by the family to all of the staff of the Lowman Home, and love and thanks to Lisa Rivera.
