EdVenture's one millionth visitor
      Katie Park of Columbia with her children Luke, 1, and Ezra, 3, is welcomed as EdVenture's one millionth visitor. The three were showered with gifts including a five- year membership to EdVenture along with other prizes valued at more than $1,000. The five- year membership was given in celebration of the museum's fifth birthday, which will be held on Saturday, Nov.

Jones new head at Heathwood Hall

      Culminating an extensive, national search, Heathwood Hall Episcopal School has named accomplished educator Chuck Jones its new head of school. He will assume his new position in the summer of 2009. Jones currently serves as associate headmaster/ provost for Forsyth Country Day School in Lewisville, N.C. He holds an A.B. from Princeton University and an M.A.

100 women to read to Horrell Hill students
      On Friday, Nov. 21 from 8- 10 am, mothers, grandmothers, aunts, and other women in the community are invited to read to students at Horrell Hill Elementary School for two hours. The school's goal is to have 100 female readers on campus to show students the importance of reading and the valuable role women play in society.

Bridge Creek third grader, Gregory Gable, wins art contest
      Gregory Gable, a student in Richland Tw o's newest school, Bridge Creek Elementary, recently won first place for third graders in the Congaree Swamp Fest art contest. Students were asked to depict animals and plant life in the Congaree National Park. Tahja Stephens, another 3rd grader at Bridge Creek also received an Honorable Mention for her painting.

Two Midlands schools named Champions of the Environment
      Heathwood Hall's Intermediate School and New Directions School have each won a $500 grant from Champions of the Environment. Each of these schools will receive a $500 cash award to use toward their project. The schools will also receive give away items, and a commercial about their project will be aired on local television.
