Jeanne Kean and Sara Buck Jeanne Kean and Sara Buck Nine members of the A.C. Moore class of 1939 met at a home in Forest Lake this past Friday night to celebrate shared memories and ignite old friendships. Most of the A.C.Moore graduates still live in Columbia and have kept in touch through the years.

When asked about their memories the first and most important memory was of May Day. Sara Swygert Buck shared that all the students were let out of classes two entire weeks before the May Day celebration. Kathryn Wallace Salley described, "We loved May Day. As I remember the fourth and fifth grades danced the May pole, and they had the most practice time in order to learn how to weave the ribbons into a plaited pole" This was Uth ne c tliem We i gHgalyr t would read to them.

Salley said, "My favorite teacher was Belle Tony. She discovered I needed glasses in the fifth grade. She thought I was trying to cheat because I looked at Jeanne Crawford's paper because I couldn't see the blackboard. She told my mother to have my eyes examined. My world expanded and the trees had leaves!"
