The Richland Northeast Cavaliers fell behind early, but came back behind the legs of Gee Gee Greene and the arm of Kersean Wilson to defeat region rival Aiken 24- 14 Friday, October 10 at Harry Parone Stadium.

The Green Hornets struck first at the beginning of the second quarter with a drive that started at their own 15 yard line. Aiken was aided by three Cavalier penalties that included a face mask and a late hit. Aubrey Johnson eventually scored on a 10- yard run at the 8:33 mark to give Aiken a 7- 0 lead with the extra point.

The Cavaliers followed with a punt. Then on Aiken's following play, Richland Northeast defensive back La'Derrick Cohens outleaped Aiken receiver Thomas Timmerman for a spectacular interception. On the very next play, Richland Northeast quarterback Kersean Wilson let fly with a beautiful bomb from the 16 yard line that caught Derek Frost in stride down the right sideline for an 84- yard touchdown to tie the score with 6:44 remaining in the half.

The score remained 7- 7 until the start of the third quarter. A 42- yard kickoff return from Kenny Upshaw set Richland Northeast up at the Aiken 48 yard line. Three plays later on a second- and- 15 from the Aiken 39 yard line, Wilson floated a pass to Ricky Gunn who stretched out to make the grab with his fingertips just as he crossed the goal line. With Daniel Passament's extra point, the Cavaliers took a 14- 7 lead.

After an Aiken punt, the Cavaliers grinded out a 16- play drive that ate the final 6:06 in the third quarter and 34 seconds of the fourth. The drive featured nine runs by Gee Greene for 32 yards and an 11- yard screen pass. The Green Hornets defense stiffened and forced a Passament field goal to make the score 17- 7 with 11:26 remaining in the game.

The teams traded punts, then the Green Hornets went on a 75- yard, 3:08 drive highlighted by a reverse to Demetrius Washington who stopped and hurled a lofting pass in the air 30 yards to Timmerman. The Green Hornets also converted a third- and- 28 with a pass from Aiken quarterback Kessler Scott to Washington that set up the Green Hornets with a first- and- goal from the Cavalier five yard line. Hudson Smith poked it in two plays later from the four with 3:56 remaining in the game.

The Green Hornets followed with an unsuccessful on- sides kick. Greene took over again taking the ball on a third- and- six call from the Richland Northeast 45 yard line to the Aiken seven yard line. Wilson rain the final seven yards to put the game away.

Greene finished with 144 yards rushing on 27 carries. Wilson added 41 yards and a touchdown on 13 carries. He was also 4- of- 9 passing for 145 yards and two touchdowns. Thanks to the 84- yard grab, Frost finished with two receptions for 95 yards and a touchdown. He also completed one pass at quarterback for 11 yards and was selected as homecoming king. Upshaw had a 42- yard kick return and an interception.
