The Heathwood Hall Highlanders amassed 367 yards of offense as they rolled to a 41- 21 win over Laurence Manning Friday, October 10.

The Highlanders received a strong effort from quarterback Mac Whalen. The junior quarterback threw for 209 yards and three touchdowns. He also led the Highlanders in rushing with 157 yards on 13 carries and three touchdowns.

In the first quarter, Heathwood Hall got the ball first and drove down the field. Aided by big gains on running and passing plays by Whalen, the Highlanders were able to put the first score on the board with a 22- yard touchdown run by Whalen. The extra point gave Heathwood Hall an early 7- 0 lead. After a turnover by Laurence Manning on the Swampcats first play of the game, Whalen took full advantage with a 25- yard touchdown pass to Morgan Whalen. The extra point extended the lead to 14- 0.

On the next possession, The Swampcats drove deep into Highlander territory. A 15- yard touchdown pass from quarterback Josh Boykin to Ken Johnson cut the Highlander lead to 14- 7.

The second quarter saw each team punt the ball twice before Heathwood turned another Swampcat turnover into points. The Highlanders ended a five- play drive with another Whalen to Whalen connection, this time it was a 62- yard touchdown pass. The extra point extended Heathwood Hall's lead to 21- 7.

The third quarter saw the Highlanders take advantage of yet another Swampcat turnover. It took the Highlanders nine plays, before an 11- yard pass from Whalen to Benji Stern resulted in another Heathwood Hall touchdown. The extra point made the lead 28- 7 in Heathwood Hall's favor.

The Swampcats didn't take long to answer the Highlander's score. Aided by two big runs from Boykin and Johnson, they punched the ball into the end zone with a one- yard run by Johnson. The extra point cut the deficit to 28- 14. The Highlanders stormed back down the field, capping off another scoring drive with a 22- yard touchdown run by Mac Whalen. The quarter ended with Heathwood leading 35- 14.

In the fourth quarter, Laurence Manning refused to give up. The Swampcats drove the ball down the field, resulting in a one- yard touchdown run by Boykin to cut the lead to 35- 21.

After another Swampcats turnover, Mac Whalen scored his third rushing touchdown with a 41- yard run. The extra point was missed, but the Highlanders still led 41- 21. Despite Laurence Manning's best efforts to get a scoring drive going before the end of the game, the clock ran out, sealing Heathwood Hall's win.
