Libertarian opposes bailout

Those who realize the foolishness of bailing out the financial institutions with billions of our tax dollars need to know that they have a choice in November. Both Obama and McCain support a bailout, which takes money from the taxpayers and gives it to foolish corporations that have wasted money, possibly committed fraud, and run themselves into the ground.

Tuesday night, I met Bob Barr, the Libertarian presidential candidate, who will be on the ballot in nearly every state, including S.C. Like 80% of the public, he is against this bailout. He recognizes the waste of the taxpayer dollars involved. He has called for prosecuting any fraud on the past of financial institutions, but otherwise the free market should operate. That's the quickest and most sensible way to bring back stability to the markets.

Poorly run companies should fail, and smartly run companies should succeed. That is the American way. We are nowhere close to the depression of the 1930s, which has a much higher home foreclosure rate. It is a lie for Obama, McCain, Lindsey Graham, and others claim otherwise. Bob Barr is in touch with America. Obama and McCain are not. David Morris Lexington, S.C.
