I really enjoyed Warner Montgomery's article about traveling to Clarksdale, Mississippi, in the most recent issue of The Star. We took our son there last year for the Sunflower Blues & Gospel Festival and just had an absolute ball. More ... I was more than a little disturbed when my five- year- old son spelled the word butt. It came out of nowhere on the way to school one day. Of course, his two sisters were completely amused, which led him to spell the butt word over and over again. More ... I first spent the night in a hospital in 1956. My brother Rick had been there for a couple of days when I arrived. Together, we weighed maybe 100 pounds. Ears and gigantic brown eyes compiled most of that. We had a stomach virus; a scary thing in the 50s. Rabies and polio were pretty frightening, too. So was Undertoad, but he only lived near the beach. More ... Actor Richard Belzer is known for his role as Detective John Munch; first on the TV show, Homicide—Life on theStreet, and later as the same character on Law & Order. More ... Those who realize the foolishness of bailing out the financial institutions with billions of our tax dollars need to know that they have a choice in November. Both Obama and McCain support a bailout, which takes money from the taxpayers and gives it to foolish corporations that have wasted money, possibly committed fraud, and run themselves into the ground. More ... Just a short note to let you know how much I appreciated the opportunity to attend the dedication for Panchita Sanchez Miot. I sent along some photos of the event. I am grateful for The Columbia Star for publicizing this event, without which I would have never known about it. More ... Any police officer or military commander will tell you the engagements in which you least want to become involved and are least likely to be successful are domestic disputes and civil wars.
