A local branch of Scrubs in Motion, a South Carolina- based medical attire retailer, has contributed their donated scrubs to the women of Sistercare Inc., a United Way partner agency that provides shelter and services for abused women and their children.

Scrubs in Motion offers a discount incentive to nurses who bring in their gently- used scrubs to their stores. Nurses receive up to 35 percent off their order, depending on the amount and condition of the scrubs they bring in. Because of a huge response from local nurses, Chris Brock, RN, BSN, owner of Scrubs in Motion, decided to present these scrubs to Sistercare's Greenville and Columbia shelters.

Scrubs in Motion's Columbia branch manager, Tara Reames says, "These women and children [of Sistercare] sometimes have to leave all of their belongings behind and may need something to help them get by while in the shelter. Sistercare will be able to give the scrubs to these women in need when they arrive."

Sistercare, whose mission involves promoting the prevention of domestic violence, is the only organization in the area that offers shelter and support services specifically for battered women and their children. The shelters serve more than 700 women and children, whose average length of stay is 29 days. They also have more than 600 women and children attending their community support groups.

Reames emphasizes, "We wanted to be able to give back to the community as well as give back to the nurses who already give so much. We have had a huge response with the donations from nurses, and the donations will help assist Sistercare in giving a better quality of life to victims of domestic violence. Sister- Care helps empower these women, and we would like to help in any way that we can."
