The Congressional Medal of Honor Society will have its national convention in Charleston in the fall of 2010 from September 26 through October 3. Beginning with Boston, Mass., in 2006, the host cities leading up to the 2010 convention are Green Bay, Wisc. (2007); Denver, Colo. (2008); and Chicago, Ill. (2009). Charleston's good fortune is also South Carolina's responsibility.

The convention needs $1 million in support. To garner support, The Citadel and The South Carolina State Guard held a brief memorial service and an elaborate reception at Still Hopes Wednesday evening, October 8. Columbia attorney Woody Cleveland and his mother Margaret Davis of Still Hopes sponsored the event.

Congressional Medal of Honor recipients in attendance were John Baker Jr., James Livingston, Charles Murray Jr., and Michael Thornton. All have connections with South Carolina. Another two recipients connected with South Carolina, Francis Currey and John McGinty, sent their regrets.

Gene Rogers Gene Rogers Finance chair for the convention is Columbia's Gene Rogers of the law firm Rogers Townsend Thomas PC. Chairman Rogers invites calls of support for the 2010 Congressional Medal of Honor Society Convention in Charleston: 771.7900.
