In the rain and on a soggy field, the Ben Lippen Falcons' valiant effort came up one completion short in an extremely close quadruple overtime game giving the Augusta Christian Lions a 48- 41 victory.

Augusta Christian was led by QB William Banks who scored on a 55- yard touchdown run that put the Lions on the scoreboard first. The Lions jumped out to a 13- point lead in the first quarter with a 1- yard touchdown run. The Falcons' Eddie Galliard blocked the extra point attempt.

The Falcon's first scoring drive began with only seconds remaining in the first quarter, a five- play drive ending in a 45- yard sprint by WR Taylor Wilson after a screen pass from QB Joey Carter. Ben Lippen missed the extra point.

The lions fourth possession of the first half was halted by a third down tackle by the Falcons' Nathan Parrish for a seven- yard loss. As with the remainder of this game, the next play began an excitement filled evening. On fourth- - and- 11, the Lions executed a fake punt with a 22- yard pass completion, keeping the drive going and ending with a five- yard touchdown run.

The Falcons' final possession of the first half was a 10- play drive that ended on a fourth-down attempt on the Lions' 14- yard line.

Ben Lippen opened the second half kicking off the Lions as the rain began to fade. The Lions traveled the length of the field on a seven- play drive that ended with Xan Mangum forcing a fumble on the Falcons' five- yard line. It was recovered by sophomore DL Jimmy Carlen. This would be the first of several defensive stands for the Falcons in the second half. An interception by Mangum late in the third quarter once again ended a Lions' drive.

The Falcons hit pay dirt once again in the fourth quarter with a 13- yard touchdown pass to WR Jonathan Cochrane from Carter, which pulled the Falcons within a touchdown. The Lions came right back with their only scoring drive of the second half off a 37- yard touchdown run to extend the lead to 14 points.

With 6:45 left in the fourth quarter, the Falcons executed two scoring drives, one an eight- play drive ending in a three- yard rushing touchdown by FB Drew Stokes and then an 11 play drive ending with a 20- yard passing touchdown to Mangum from Carter. Cochrane made both extra points to tie the game at 27- 27.

The Lions were stuffed by the Falcon defense on their final possession. Both teams scored in the first overtime, Augusta Christian with a 10- yard pass (extra point good) and Ben Lippen with a 20- yard touchdown run from Carter (extra point good).

In the second overtime, it was much of the same with the Falcons scoring first on a ten- yard pass from Carter to Mangum (extra point good) and the Lions converting a one- yard touchdown run (extra point good). The shootout continued into a third overtime with both team attempting field goals.

Mangum rushed through the Lion line to block their 18- yard attempt. Ben Lippen's 15- yard attempt was wide right. On to the fourth overtime, Augusta converted on third- and- one with a one- yard touchdown run (extra point good). The Falcon's final attempt ended with the Lions picking off a pass in the end zone.

Mangum finished with eight receptions for 99 yards and two touchdowns, ten yards rushing, five tackles, one forced fumble, one interception, one blocked field goal, and a 25- yard kick return yards. Carter was 22- of- 31 for 300 yards and four touchdowns. He also rushed 13 times for 79 yards and a touchdown. Mitchell Deter had nine receptions for 74 yards. Chazz Sims led the defense with 11.5 tackles, two for a loss and one sack. Mick Shoemaker had ten tackles and a sack. Miles Fisher had eight tackles with two for loss and two sacks.
