Cardinals spike Falcons
Ben Lippen's Taylor Benton slams the ball. The Cardinal Newman volleyball team defeated Ben Lippen 3- 0 in a region I- AAA matchup on Tuesday, September 30.
The Lady Cardinals (9- 3, 5- 0) breezed through the first game, winning 25- 10. Ben Lippen scored only three points on their serves. But the Lady Falcons (10- 4, 4- 3) were determined to make the match difficult for Cardinal Newman, and the score in the second game was tied at nine when Cardinal coach Bob Watson called a time out to implore his team to play with more focus. The team responded by winning 16 of the next 21 points to win the game 25- 14.
The third game was the tightest of the three, with the teams seeming to trade points until Cardinal junior Denise Jeanmougin rotated to serve with Cardinal Newman up 15- 13. The Lady Cardinals then won the next seven points off Jeanmougin's serves to pull away, and eventually they won the game 25- 17.
Jeanmougin led the Lady Cardinals with six aces and nine kills. Nazley Wilson added four aces and seven kills. Alex Watson led the team with 21 assists. Senior Carrie Settle led the Lady Falcons with four kills and two aces.
