Captain John Randolph Miot

Capt . John Randolph Miot (1829- 1877) was born in Charleston. At age 16 he enlisted in Company F of the Palmetto Regiment and served in the Mexican War. He was the first to plant the US flag on the ramparts of Mexico City. In the Civil War, he served in Virginia then, after the Batter y Wagner attack, he was taken prisoner and remained so until the war was over.
John and Panchita had six children: M.A. Miot of Atlanta; Mrs. George Old of Washington, N.C.; Mrs. W.P. Genovar of St. Augustine, Fla.; and Mrs. J.B. Letton, Joseph D. Miot, and Charles H. Miot of Columbia.
