      The Cardinal Newman volleyball team defeated Ben Lippen 3- 0 in a region I- AAA matchup on Tuesday, September 30. The Lady Cardinals (9- 3, 5- 0) breezed through the first game, winning 25- 10. Ben Lippen scored only three points on their serves.

Cardinals win battle with Skyhawks
GIRLS TENNIS
      The Cardinal Newman girls' tennis team defeated Hammond 5- 4 to sweep the season series on Monday, September 29. Cardinal Newman's number one player, Tori August, had little trouble with Beth Cotter, winning 6- 2, 6- 1. But Layna Plyler, Hammond's number two, had less trouble vanquishing her opponent, Evan Black, winning 6- 0, 6- 0.

Bearcats win thriller over Eagles
      The Brookland- Cayce Bearcats extended their winning streak to three games with a 3- 2 (15- 25, 25- 22, 25- 21, 22- 25, 15- 11) win over rival Airport September 30 at Airport. The match took five games and saw 36 ties and 31 lead changes. Airport was led by Taniqua Canzater, Jordan Turner, and Whitney Brown, while B- C leaned on Alley Greer and Alex White to carry them.

Raiders down Devils
Keenan 22 Dreher 10
      Arthur Goforth ignored the sloppy field and rainy conditions to carry the Keenan Raiders to a 22- 10 victory over visiting Dreher at Bolden Stadium on September 26. Goforth's 205 yards and two touchdowns sent Keenan to a 4- 1 record. The teams combined for 11 fumbles and Dreher lost three.

Cavs send 'Wolves home with their tails between their legs
White Knoll 7 Richland Northeast 40
      The Richland Northeast Cavaliers destroyed the visiting White Knoll Timberwolves 40- 7 in a rain- soaked Harry Parone Stadium September 26. The Cavaliers out gained White Knoll 311 total yards to 99. Richland Northeast had 247 yards rushing to the Timberwolves' 14.

Bethea named CIAA Rookie of the Week
      Lawrenceville, VA: Saint Paul's running back Nicholas Bethea earned CIAA Rookie of the Week for his spectacular efforts in the Tigers' game against the Fayetteville State University Broncos on Saturday, September 20, 2008. Bethea is a 5ft. 10in., 185 lb freshman running back recruit from Dreher High School.

Lugoff- Elgin 43 Brookland- Cayce 7
      At a wet and soggy Brookland- Cayce field at on Friday night, Septmber 26, the Lugoff- Elgin Demons used a strong running attack to beat the Bearcats 43- 7. Lugoff- Elgin leaned on running backs Trent Hudson and Philip Osborne to carry the team, while Brookland- Cayce pinned their hopes on Kenyatta Castleberry and Demetrius Jackson.

Goal line stand saves Highlanders
Wislon Hall 16 Heathwood Hall 21
      Mac Whalen threw for 168 yards and three touchdowns, and the Heathwood Hall defense completed a huge goal line stand with less than a minute left to defeat Wilson Hall 21- 16 on Friday, September 26. The Highlanders (4- 1) and the Barons (4- 2) played the game in a continuous drizzle, which kept the play calling tight and the score low.

Skyhawks run away with win
Porter Gaud 21 Hammond 29
      The Hammond Skyhawks crowned a Homecoming Queen and racked up another victory September 26 by defeating Porter Gaud 29- 21. Mason Castles was selected as the queen, while the Hammond offense was king. The Skyhawks blitzed Porter Gaud for 483 total yards.

Falcons and Lions in epic four- OT battle
      In the rain and on a soggy field, the Ben Lippen Falcons' valiant effort came up one completion short in an extremely close quadruple overtime game giving the Augusta Christian Lions a 48- 41 victory. Augusta Christian was led by QB William Banks who scored on a 55- yard touchdown run that put the Lions on the scoreboard first.
