Cavaliers make Blazers go lame

Richland Northeast's Kenny Upshaw took the opening kickoff 84 yards to the Ridge View nine yard and the Cavaliers never looked back as they cruised to a convincing 28- 7 victory over the Blazers Friday, September 19 at Harry Parone stadium.
Junior quarterback Kersean Wilson raced the final nine yards on the second play of the game to put Richland Northeast up 7- 0 just 19 seconds into the first quarter.
On their second possession, the Cavaliers drove 54 yards in 99 seconds. Wilson found Jeremy Posey in the left corner of the end zone with a 23- yard connection that put the Cavaliers up 14- 0 after the Daniel Passament extra point.
The Blazers consistently hurt themselves with penalty after penalty. They were flagged 15 times for over 120 yards resulting in an average of just over third- and- 12 yards on the night. Still the Blazers had opportunities.
On their second possession of the game, running back Bucky Kennedy dashed 68 yards to the Cavalier three- yard line. Kennedy rushed the final three yards to bring Ridge View within seven with 6:26 remaining in the the first quarter. Then after an ensuing Cavalier fumble, the Blazers had the ball at their own 43- yard line. But after two penalties and a sack, they were staring at a fourth- and- 36 and were forced to punt.

After an exchange of punts, Richland Northeast put together an 87- yard, 4.5 minute drive. Running back Gee Gee Greene accounted for 42 of those yards with a nine- yard run and 33- yard pass play. Wilson used his legs and his arms overcoming a sack and a brutal hit to complete a 23- yard touchdown pass to Ricky Gunn giving Richland Northeast a 21- 7 lead with 4:24 remaining in the first half.
Things went from bad to worse for Ridge View when the Cavaliers' Charles George ripped the ball away from Ridge View return man Naquan Fleming giving Richland Northeast the ball at the Blazer 23 yard line.
The Cavaliers needed just one play to strike as Wilson found a wide open Derek Frost in the right side of the end zone to give Richland Northeast a 28- 7 lead. Frost also played some quarterback for Richland Northeast filling in as needed.
The Blazers opened the third quarter driving 38 yards to the Cavalier 31- yard line, but Dontrail McDaniel coralled Ridge View quarterback Jalen Perry for a three yard loss. Then on a fourth- and- seven play from the Richland Northeast 32, Perry was sacked again. Neither team did much to end the quarter.
The Blazers got no closer than the Cavalier 40- yard line , and ended the game with two consecutive interceptions.
Richland Northeast improved to 2- 2, while Ridge View fell to 2- 2.
