No last second two- point conversions were tried this year, though Bacon Bowl X was a good, close game that came down to the end once again. Dreher scored first but could not hold the lead as A.C. Flora scored 17 unanswered points to win its second consecutive Bacon Bowl, 17- 7 on September 18.

While emotions ran high and each team was excited to play its archrival, neither team was able to score in the first quarter. Dreher leaned heavily on tailbacks Sheldon Van Dyke and Devante Sims but could not penetrate the Falcon defense enough to have any real scoring chances. Meanwhile, Flora used Terry Cherry and Carlos McCoy on the ground with similar results.

The second quarter featured all but three of the points scored in the game. The Blue Devils put together a solid drive of over 50 yards, resulting in quarterback Jacob Gindman's one- yard touchdown plunge. With momentum behind them, Dreher looked to shut down Flora and try to put more points on the board. Instead, Falcon quarterback Drew Desmond found McCoy on a short pass across the middle on the very first play after Dreher's touchdown. McCoy raced around the corner and took off down field, outrunning the Blue Devil defense for a 75- yard touchdown for the Falcons, stealing momentum from their rivals.

As the first half came to a close, Flora ran a short two- minute drill to bring the ball to the 11- yard line of the Blue Devils with passes from Desmond to McCoy and a fourth- down- and- two conversion with just over a minute to play in the half. With just 35 seconds left, Desmond rolled to his right, avoided a sack and found wideout Joseph O'Steen in the front corner of the end zone for Flora's second touchdown.

Trailing 14- 7, Dreher tried to take risks in order to catch up to the Falcons. A perfectly executed fake punt stunned Flora and gave the Blue Devils the ball near mid- field. But a fourth down conversion was denied by the swarming Flora defense and Dreher had to give up the ball just before the end of the third.

Desmond scrambled on several pass attempts, the most dramatic of which found him rolling to his left, changing direction back to the right, nearly reaching his own sideline before firing deep downfield and finding McCoy at the five yard line. The 37- yard pass play set up the Falcons for three more points as penalties pushed them back to the 20. Grant Clayton's 43- yard field goal bounced off the crossbar but fell through the uprights, giving Flora a 17- 7 lead.

Dreher responded with passes from Gindman to Chad Jasper and runs by Sims and Leonard Kennedy. A roughing the punter penalty and a pass interference call brought the Blue Devils within scoring range, but a false start on a 31- yard field goal negated the kick and the retry from 36 yards sailed wide right.

Flora's Darius Hammonds, Barry Dodson, and Cedric Cornelius each had sacks in the game's final minutes as Dreher's final attempts were thwarted and Flora prevailed for its first two- game winning streak since the Bacon Bowls began in 1999.
