The Brookland- Cayce Lady Bearcats' golf team played host to 12 teams from around the Midlands and beyond at Charwood Country Club on Saturday September 20. Teams played 18 holes on the Red and the White courses in beautiful weather. The event raised money for the Rally for the Cure Campaign and was held in honor of B- C Coach Roger Smith's parents who each died of cancer.

Strom Thurmond High School from Johnston, S.C. won this year's event with a combined score of 322 and had three players in the top five in scoring amongst the field of 64. South Aiken took second place in the event by one stroke over B- C. South Aiken's Taylor Dodson placed first overall with a nice round of 74. Top players from other teams included McKenzie Talbert of Strom Thurmond in second with a 75; Sarah Johnson of Brookland- Cayce in fourth overall with a 78; Samantha O'Donnell of Chapin scoring 81; Nicole Chin of Dutch Fork, 81; Cierra Hoyle of Spring Valley, 82; Ali Marrero of RNE, 83; all in the top ten. Karly Mims of Airport High School landed in 14th position overall with a 91 but most importantly scored a hole- in- one on her final hole.

Awards were given to the top two golf teams and individuals. Additional awards got to closest to the pin, long drive, and best pink outfit. Most all of the girls wore pink in honor of breast cancer awareness which made it difficult for spectators to cheer on their favorite schools as it was almost impossible to tell who was from which team. Luckily almost all the players' bags have some school distinguishing characteristic which helped out.

The Lady Bearcats will end the month of golf competing against Blythewood and cross town rival Airport at Charwood on September 25 and then A.C. Flora and Spring Valley at Northwoods on September 30.
