Bearcats sweep Blue Devils
B- C's Mackenzie Cleland (back) and Alley Greer Brookland- Cayce got a rare break from what has been a tough schedule that has them at 3- 6 (2- 1 in Region V- AAA) with a victory against Dreher Tuesday, September 23. The Bearcats received strong performances from Mackenzie Cleland, Kristen Hutchens, Ebony McBride, and Alex White. Dreher also received strong performances from Tikka McNeal, Erin Hollier, and Carson Bowman.
The Bearcats came out hot in the first game, scoring the first seven points behind the serving of Cleland and Alley Greer. The Bearcats seemed to be on their way to a convincing first game win leading 24- 8, before Dreher mounted a comeback.
Dreher, led by McNeal and Hollier, scored the next six points; before Hutchins scored the final point for the Bearcats to give Brookland- Cayce a 25- 14 game one win.
Game two started out tight between the two teams until White helped the Bearcats to a 12- 6 lead. Dreher called a time out hoping to break the Brookland- Cayce momentum. At first the strategy didn't seem to work as the Bearcat's scored five of the next eight points, but three straight points by the Blue Devils tightened the score to 17- 12. However, behind the scoring of Hutchins and White, Brookland- Cayce was able to close out the second game with a 25- 15 win.
Dreher's Erin Hollier and Tequila McNeal At the start of the third game, it looked like Dreher was ready to give up the match, as the Bearcats raced out to an 8- 2 lead. But the toughness of the Blue Devils helped them rally and score the next nine points to hold an 11- 8 lead as the Bearcats called a time out. Out of the time out, Brookland Cayce came storming back scoring 12 of the next 15 points to regain the lead at 20- 14. As Dreher had done the whole match, the Blue Devils refused to give up. They rallied to close the lead to 23- 21 before Brookland- Cayce called a time out. The time out helped stop the Blue Devil rally and helped Brookland- Cayce finish out the match, winning the game 25- 21.
