Memorial service for Mildred Hughey Neil, 90, of the Presbyterian Home in Lexington, was held Tuesday September 16 at 11 am at Shandon Presbyterian Church. Serving as honorary pallbearers were members of the Ed Anderson Class. The burial was private. The visitation was Monday 5- 7 pm at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel.

Mrs. Neil, wife of the late Charles McKeown "Mac" Neil, died Saturday, September 13, 2008. Born in Columbia on April 10, 1918, she was a daughter of the late Daniel Webster Hughey and Frances Asbury Lever Hughey. An accomplished artist, she studied under Louise Petit and Ed Yaghjian. During the past 40 years, she produced over 100 oil paintings, many shown in local exhibits. One exhibit now hangs in the dining room of the Presbyterian Home.

Mrs. Neil was an active member of Shandon Presbyterian Church, the Ed Anderson Sunday School Class, the XYZ Group, the Eleanor Laurens Pinckney Chapter of the DAR, the Blue Goose, and the Senior Friends.

Surviving are daughters: Ann (Mrs. Charles) Ballentine and Becky (Mrs. Tom) Abraham; son, Chuck (Susan Mann) Neil; grandchildren: Chip (Claudia Beck) Ballentine, Beth (Mrs. Guy) Gierhart, Tad (Glynnis Fellers) Abraham, and John and Melanie Neil; and five great- grandchildren. Mrs. Neil was known as "Mimi" to three nieces and two nephews. She was predeceased by sisters, Rebecca H. Caldwell, Frances H. Vannerson, Kathleen Hughey, and brother, Daniel W. Hughey Jr.
