Beidler thanks Star

Thank you again for bringing the past to light. (The Beidler Legacy, The Columbia Star, 09-05-08) You are right that the family was torn about losing property on the monument, but ultimately I do believe it was probably in the best interest of the state.

I plan to forward your article to the family at large, many of whom have not read such a detailed history of the family's involvement in SC. This will shed some light on their heritage.

I look forward to meeting you at some point in the beautiful Palmetto State, maybe on a boardwalk…

Frank Beidler IV

Star brings history alive

I just completed the 75th part of your series on Pineville, and I wanted to thank you for bringing the history of that community alive. It is certainly not something we learned in school which is a shame, given the proximity of Pineville to Kingstree.

I'm sure you've seen Douglas Bostick's book, Sunken

Plantations, recently published by The History Press. I

"stumbled" across your series as I was reading Sunken

Plantations, and the two together have given me quite an interesting view of the Pineville, St. Stephens, Pinopolis area.

I spent much of 2006 compiling and editing Bessie Swann Britton's columns from the old County Record, which were wonderful stories of Kingstree at the turn of

the 20th century. The resulting book, Remembering

Kingstree, was also published by The History Press.

There is so much local history that should be preserved. Thanks again for doing that for the Pineville area. Linda Brown Kingstree, SC
