Jessica Carvalho is the new coach for the Heathwood Hall volleyball team. She was born in Brazil, but has been in the United States for six years.

Carvalho played for Spring Valley High School and the S.C. Juniors Volleyball Club. She went on to play volleyball at Newberry College. After graduating, she stayed at Newberry working two years as the men's and women's tennis assistant coach. Carvalho also coached for the S.C. Plex Juniors Volleyball Club.

As for Heathwood Hall volleyball, the season is young and so are the Highlanders. Only three starters, Hunter Glenn, Megha Penmetsa, and Mary Bond Bailey, returned from 2007. So far this season Heathwood Hall is 1- 3 overall and 1- 2 in region play as of September 8. The Highlanders beat Augusta Christian 3- 0, but lost 3- 0 to region foes St. Josephs and Ben Lippen, and Wilson Hall in a non- region clash.
