James E. McKinnon

Funeral services for James E. McKinnon, 69, were held Sunday, September 7, 2008, at the First Presbyterian Church in Columbia. Interment was held in Elmwood Cemetery and Gardens. Serving as pallbearers were Sterling Beckman, Dr. Rob Clark, George Gibbs, Bobby Kapp, Angelo Malonas, and Bob McKenzie. Honorary pallbearers were members of the Saint Andrews Society. Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, assisted the family.

Mr. McKinnon died Thursday, September 4, 2008. He was born in Columbia, son of the late James H. and Mary S. McKinnon. He attended Schneider Elementary School, Hand Junior High, and graduated from Dreher High School in 1957. He attended the University of South Carolina.

Mr. McKinnon retired from Syntex Laboratories after 30 years as a territory manager. He was a licensed real estate appraiser and founded McKinnon Appraisal Company.

Mr. McKinnon was a member of the Columbia Rotary Club, the Palmetto Club, Forest Lake Club, the Saint Andrews Society of Columbia, the Eastover Hunting Club and the Williston Duck Hunting Club. He served as a member of the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve.

Surviving are his wife of 42 years, June Hammond McKinnon; daughter and son- in- law, Mary Smythe McKinnon Kannapell and Charles Carter Kannapell Jr. of Washington, D.C.; sister, Frances Johnson of Lake Wateree; and brother, Henry McKinnon of Nashville, Tenn. He was predeceased by his son, Matthew Hammond McKinnon.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church of Columbia.
