Brookland- Cayce coach Abby Bray got his first taste of the Brookland- Cayce Bear-cats/Airport Eagles rivalry as a head coach Friday, August 29 and it was a little sour. Airport quarterback W.T. Murden passed for 127 yards and two touchdowns to give the Eagles a 21- 6 victory. Airport 21 Brookland- Cayce 6

The Bearcats scored first off a Kenyatta Castleberry 19- yard touchdown pass to Jonathan Rumph, but it was all Eagles after that.

Murden found Tyler Sturie for a 33- yard score in the second quarter. Then in the third quarter Ryan Smith scored on a one- yard run and Murden connected with Derek Cushman on a 17- yard touchdown pass to give Airport the 21- 6 advantage.

Airport coach Kirk Burnett said he didn't realize until the game started that his backs and most of his receivers got their first career carries and catches in the opener because they were all new to the team. He also said it was an ugly game, but he would take the win anyway. Burnett was happy with the performance of Murden, saying he threw well for a "running" quarterback.
