City to memorialize 9/11 victims

The City of Columbia will host the third annual Freedom Walk and Ceremony September 11,2008. City leaders are inviting the public to come and honor the memory of those who fell victim to the tragic events that occurred September 11, 2001.

The Freedom Walk will kick off at the State House. Walkers are asked to arrive no later than 11:20 am. The walk will advance down Main Street, left on Washington Street, and proceed into Memorial Park.

A special 9/11 ceremony will follow the walk at 12 pm at Memorial Park (USS Columbia), 312 Laurel Street. Speakers include Mayor Bob Coble, City of Columbia Police Chief Tandy P. Carter, Fort Jackson General Brad May, and Richland County Sheriff Lott.
