The S.C. Wildlife Federation holds Wild Summer's Nite Auction & Wild Game Feast
Philip Greene (l) of Wood Song Canoe with Clinch Heyward winner of the Morning Sun Paddle at the S.C. Wildlife Federation Wild Summer's Nite Auction and Wild Game Feast. The South Carolina Wildlife Federation (SCWF) held Wild Summer Nite, Auction and Wild Game Feast, August 23, 2008, at the S.C. National Guard Armory. Emcee for the evening was David Stanton of WIS- TV News. The auctioneer was Col. Joseph "Joe" Exum III. The auction committee was Wil Brown, Chris Cannon, Allison Drafts, Bill Frye, Erika Hamilton, Christie McGregor, Judy Mims, and Yarley Steedly.
The SCWF, established by sportsmen in 1931 and reorganized in 1946, as a state affiliate of the National Wildlife Federation plays a valuable role in conservation, education, and natural resource management for S.C. SCWF receives its support through membership and funds raised from events such as the Wild Summer Nite stay in S.C.
One of the items donated for the live auction was the Morning Sun Paddle handcrafted by Philip and Tim Greene of Wood Song Canoe. It took more than 20 hours of labor spread out over two weeks to complete. The gorgeous flat- water paddle was constructed from non- traditional boat- building softwoods. Curly maple and mahogany were laminated together in the unique morning sun design. The SCWF logo was printed on the back of the paddle. The paddle is a type of functional art that can be used and displayed. It was signed, dated, and numbered. Clinch Heyward won the paddle with a final bid of $975.
