Heyward Career and Technology Center (HCTC) was successfully completed in 2006 with 15 additions and renovations. Since completion, over 900 students per year are able to enjoy and learn from the 18 programs that currently are available.

These programs also offer students a chance to gain experience before stepping foot in the "real- world." By August 2006, 15 facilities were added or renovated within HCTC.

Facilities included a renewed residential construction classroom, culinary arts facility renovation, auto collision area renovation, a new guidance and career center and a new computer assisted design (CAD) lab just to name a few. In addition, a completely new wing was added to house the Richland One Works, "ROW," program.

This program serves nearly 300 students who have special needs. The goal is to arm students with skills so they can seamlessly transition to the workplace when they complete high school.

Some of the more popular programs include culinary arts, auto technician or collision, cosmetology, advanced health science as well advanced sports medicine.

With all of the newly renovated or added areas, students who attend HCTC are becoming well- equipped for their careers after graduation. With more space to be creative and new equipment and facilities to flourish in, students can easily gain "true-tolife" experience in the area of their choice. For example, students who dream of becoming a chef, can easily exercise their culinary talent by producing delicious treats in the commercially equipped and larger kitchen, and showcase to folks in the community when it's presented in the restaurant.

Overall, the renovations and additions to HCTC were successful.
