The Forest Acres Appearance Commission has been busy helping the city go green. Their efforts have paid off. Not only do they have a new tree ordinance, work to refurbish Quinine Hill Park has at long last begun. In addition, the city has long done a good job with recycling efforts but many residents were confused about how to sort trash from recyclables. Enter Mary Pat Baldauf with a great solution. The Appearance Commission applied for and received a grant from DHEC's Office of Solid Waste Reduction and Recycling. They used the funds to produce and distribute recycling education stickers to be affixed to bins and carts. The stickers tell residents how to sort and prepare recycables. City Administrator Mark Williams says "It's all about trying to boost awareness of and participation in recycling. We hope it will help divert additional wastes that have been going into the landfill."
