      I know I'm getting older rapidly, but I wasn't prepared for my kids to get older so quickly. I know it's true, because at least one of them is growing taller and meaner at the same time. In the last month, my oldest daughter has questioned my need to call other men "Man" and "Buddy," and she's also called me uncreative.

      I walked through the room as The Today Show ran highlights from the Red Sox- Rays baseball game from the night before. Since it was sports, I stopped to watch instead of averting my eyes, plugging my ears, and running from the room.

Justice may be blushing
      Last week, a 33- year- old New York man entered a plea of guilty to the murder of a Portland, Oregon, man, according to an on- line report from CNN. This particular murderer's plea was rather unusual, if not a record among "the world's most unusual pleas.

Stop using the R- word
      It is time that the citizens of our state help make a stand against a word that has gained popularity but is offensive to so many. The "R- word" or "retard" has found a place in common language and seems to be accepted by so many. In fact, it is said 16 times in one scene in the film Tropic Thunder which opens in theaters this week.
