The American Red Cross of Central South Carolina is providing emergency aid to residents in the Midlands displaced by Monday's storms.

The American Red Cross of Central South Carolina dispatched volunteers to disaster scenes throughout the Midlands to provide immediate, disaster- related assistance.

Red Cross aid includes direct financial assistance to uninsured victims of disaster that are unable to stay in their homes due to the storm damage. The aid is to be used for lodging, food, clothing, infant and medical supplies, and other life- sustaining necessities. Comfort kits containing toiletries and other basic necessities as well as stuffed animals and kid- friendly activities are being distributed. Referrals to partner agencies were also made in order to better assist the families in rebuilding their lives.

Every 18 hours, the local chapter responds to a disaster, generally single family home or apartment fires, in the central region of South Carolina. While most often associated with providing aid during large- scale disasters, the local chapter provides aid to local families in need- 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year.
