The Columbia Star is the oldest locally- owned newspaper in Columbia. It began as The Star Reporter at 716 Santee Avenue in 1963 with three people: Miller Montgomery, and Harold and Mary Booker. In 1998, the company moved to 723 Queen Street and the new owners Warner Montgomery and Mimi Maddock changed the name to The Columbia Star. For 45 years, the newspaper has served the people of Columbia always remembering the mission of the three pioneers of The Star Reporter: "to print the news of the community, the joys, the achievements, and the sorrows, all of which make up a full life."
