Columbian named principal dancer with the New York City Ballet
      Sara Mearns, a former member of the Ann Brodie's Carolina Ballet, was promoted to principal dancer with the New York City Ballet on June 28, 2008. The promotion was made by Peter Martins, New York City Ballet's Ballet Master in Chief and successor to George Balanchine, June 28 following Mearns's performance in Balanchine's "La Sonnambula.

Lane Bragan Oana
      Michael and Heather Oana, along with their son London, announce the birth of their second child, Lane Bragan Oana. Lane was born on Monday, July 14th at 7:25 am at Lexington Hospital. He weighed in at seven pounds, four ounces and 20 inches long. The Oana family would like to thank their friends and family for keeping Heather and Lane in their prayers.

      Anneliese Bailey Johnson was born at 1:55 pm June 30, 2008 at Lexington Memorial Hospital. She weighed five pounds and 14 ounces and was 19 inches long. Her parents are Elizabeth Bailey Johnson and Sean Arthur Johnson. Her grandparents are Margaret M. Bailey and Joseph G. Bailey Jr. and Vivien Johnson and Alvin A. Johnson.

Tick Tock Vagabonds timed to strike comic book top ten
      A South Carolina man is trying to win a world wide contest to determine the best unknown comic writer. Greg Robinson, who lives in West Columbia, has made the top 50 for the second year in a row and is trying to crack the top ten this year. He will make a three minute video presentation on his entry and rely on internet voting to advance.

DAR Chapter delegation attends 117th Continental Congress
      The nation's capital welcomed more than 3,000 members of one of its foremost service organizations this week with the arrival of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) for their 117th annual Continental Congress.
