Mrs. John Hardin Reading Ann Elizabeth Shaw and John Hardin Reading were united in marriage at 6 pm, Saturday, July 12, 2008, at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Sumter.

The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Ervin Shaw of Sumter, the granddaughter of Mrs. George Mendel Lay and the late Mr. Lay of Loris and Mr. and Mrs. Ervin Burns Shaw of Sumter. She graduated from Wilson Hall School and Lander University with a bachelor of science degree in Elementary Education. She is employed as a teacher and administrator at Hammond School in Columbia.

The bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Theodore Harold Reading II of Columbia, and the grandson of Mr. Tucker Fisher Dana and the late Mrs. Dana and Mr. and Mrs. Theodore Harold Reading, all of Columbia. The bridegroom graduated from Presbyterian College. He is employed by M.B. Kahn of Columbia.

The Reverend Walton Romefelt Kendall and the Reverend Dr. Sinclair Buchanan Ferguson officiated at the ceremony.

Music was provided by Mrs. George Mendel Lay, pianist; William Lee Scobee, organist; Mrs. Richard Cogburn Jones, vocalist; and Evan Lewis Thompson, trumpeter.

The bride was given in marriage by her father. She wore an ivory ball gown of dupioni silk, accented with alencon lace on the bodice and hemline, and a cathedral- length veil which belonged to her mother. She carried a bouquet of ivory vandella roses and pink hypericum berries. Margaret Sloan Shaw served as maid of honor. The bridesmaids were Ashley Jones Branham, Jessica Bannister Dorn, Virginia Lynn Jones, Amanda Reading Martin, Carolina Shaw Motley, Mary Robertson Reading, Miriam Brelan Riddle, Wesley Ann Shaw, and Jessica Epps Wilkes. The junior bridesmaids were Emily Grace Gore, Ann Elizabeth McCreight, and Catherine Stout McCreight. Flower girls were Ellison Knight Gore and Sarah Stewart McCreight.

The bridegroom's father served as best man. The groomsmen were William Neal Carpenter, William Lawton Greenwood, Marshall Braddoch Martin, Ryan Michael Reese, Alfred William Shaw, Mendel Burns Shaw, Calvin Lamar Thaxton III, Benjamin John Thomas, and Jacob Pierce Thompson. The ushers were George Mendel Lay, Jr. and Jonathan Knight Gore.

Also participating were Hannah Elizabeth Merchant and Katherine Lagare Szymanski.

A reception was given by the bride's parents at Sunset Country Club. The bridegroom's parents held the rehearsal dinner at Sunset Country Club.

Following a wedding trip to the Turks and Caicos, the couple will reside in Columbia.
