Pupcakes Boutique celebrates "First Birthday Paw- ty"
      Marie Lipton, owner of Pupcakes Boutique, will hold the first annual Birthday Paw- ty July 26, 2008, at the store. Lipton and her silky terrier, Prada, the store's precocious assistant manager, will host the event to mark their one- year anniversary owning and operating the 2732 Devine Street store and to thank Columbia for its support.

Crayton Middle School students donate to Columbia Animal Shelter
     Crayton Middle School students (l- r) Octavia Sims, Mary Sarah Komar, Hardie Cate, and Laura Mallick are pictured with guidance counselor Laura Lee Shaleuly's dog, Sumu. The students donated more than 300 pet supplies to the Columbia Animal Shelter. Pet food, cat and dog treats, cleaning supplies, and animal toys were collected by Crayton Middle School's National Junior Honor Society under the guidance of Laura Lee Shaleuly.

Educated canines looking for love and affection
      Jasmine or "Jazzy" is lovingly referred to at the shelter as such a sweet girl. She is a graduate of the Dog Trainers Workshop in the Upstate and is also a graduate of Project Pet basic training. She is a very tall hound mix and is quite strong. Project Pet is looking for a loving home for this special lady.

Plan for pets in case of emergency
      In planning for the hurricane season, do not forget your pets. Official shelters do not allow pets. In the event of evacuation, make alternative arrangements for pets, such as with family friends, veterinarians, or kennels in safe locations.
