RCPL executive director David Warren has recognized Mary Lewis for volunteering more than 1,000 hours of service to the Richland County Public Library. Lewis was named RCPL Adult Volunteer of the Year in 2007, and her work in the Periodicals Department at the Main Library has uncovered a wealth of information on Columbia's historic buildings and events during the early 20th century.

Karl S. "Butch" Bowers Jr. has returned to his practice at Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough LLP in Columbia after an appointment as special counsel for voting matters with the U.S. Department of Justice in Washington, D.C. In 2007, Bowers took leave from Nelson Mullins to accept the appointment in the Bush Administration. As voting counsel, Bowers oversaw the activities of the voting section of the Civil Rights Division, and he provided legal and policy counsel on federal election law matters to senior officials in the Justice Department.

Butch Bowers Butch Bowers Chapin resident Henry Flowers has captured Region VIII's top honors with a speech titled "My First Time." He is a member of Richland 2500 Toastmasters which meets twice a month in Columbia.

In 1998, Russell and Jeffcoat Realtors was the sponsor for recipient Darius* to go to Disney World in Orlando, Florida as part of the Make a Wish Foundation. On October 29, 2008, Darius will turn 16 years old. Darius's mother, Valerie, wrote a letter to Bob Russell and Abb Jeffcoat to thank them for what they did over ten years ago. "Dar- ius will be in remission for ten years this November. We are planning a trip on a cruise for him in December. As my son, Darius, put it at age five, 'Thank you God for the two angels who made his my dream come true."

Phillips graduated from Auburn University with a master of accountancy degree and from North Carolina State University with a bachelor of science degree in accounting.
