      Mary Richardson Briggs of Summerton died last week, but something special lives on, not only for her extensive family but for the entire state of South Carolina. This 85-year-old lady was responsible for the tune which became the official State Waltz of South Carolina, "The Richardson Waltz.

      Rosemary Smith was born in a German colony in Africa called Southwest now known as Namibia. Smith's family moved to Karlsruhe, a city in their homeland of Germany, when she was two years old. She remembers when the German soldiers marched out to "take over the world" under Hitler's regime.

Puppy love kept in a jewelry box for 20 years
      More years ago than I care to remember, I was getting ready to go to my 20th high school reunion, and I started thinking about little league baseball. The summer before I entered junior high school, our little league team won the championship, and the team sponsors gave each player a small sterling silver baseball to wear around our necks.
