Will Freeman pitched seven strong innings and the Pathfinders scored eleven runs in the fourth inning to give Richland Post 6 a 13- 5 victory over first place Irmo/ Chapin on June 16. Irmo/Chapin struck first when Will Keel powered a bases- loaded double to left field. Tyler Martin, Derek Moses, and Shea Solomon crossed the plate to give the visitors an early 3- 0 lead. Freeman managed to get out of the inning without any more damage, though a hit batsman and a wild pitch kept the fans engaged to the last out.
Shawn Linebaugh, the Irmo/Chapin starter, pitched well until the start of the bottom of the fourth inning. Then the wheels fell off. Richland battered Linebaugh, then relievers Justin Norris and Cameron Baker, all of whom entered the game before a single out had been recorded. Single, double, single, double, walk, double, walk, single, walk, single and grand slam was the Post 6 progression, as Sims bested his double from earlier in the inning by clearing the left field fence to complete the assault on the Irmo/ Chapin pitching. Chris Daniels and Justin Strauss each added two- run doubles, while Kyle Williamson, Kyle Strasburger and Freeman all contributed RBI as well.
Irmo/Chapin starter Shawn Linebaugh pitches in the first inning. Suddenly trailing 11- 3, Irmo/Chapin found life difficult against the pitching of Freeman. Between the fifth, sixth, and seventh innings, Freeman faced only four batters in each inning, using double plays to avoid a comeback by the visitors. Richland, meanwhile, left runners in scoring position in the sixth and seventh to remain at eleven runs.
In the eighth inning, Richland relieved Freeman with Joseph O'Steen. Irmo/ Chapin was able to knock in a fourth run when Keel used a fielder's choice to score Chad Balderman.
Richland's Justin Strauss drove in four runs including a two- run homer in the eighth. Richland responded in the bottom of the eighth when Mo Holler doubled to lead off, and Strauss homered to left- center field.
O'Steen struck out the side in the top of the ninth, but not before a Jonathan Alcocer double scored Will Rolin to provide the final score of 13- 5 in favor of the home team. The loss was the first of the season for top of the table Irmo/Chapin, bringing second- place Richland within one game in the standings.
