Columbian heads to Harvard to research diabetes- induced oxidative stress

James Chappell James Chappell is the recipient of the 2007 C.W. Edgerton Award in Plant Pathology & Crop Physiology. He received a best graduate student paper award at the 2007 Crop Science Society of America annual meetings in New Orleans.
Chappell has accepted a postdoctoral position at the Harvard Medical School beginning in mid- 2008. His research will focus on diabetes- induced oxidative stress in the laboratory of Dr. Mary Loeken.
Chappell has completed his doctoral research concerning oxidative stress and smooth cordgrass seed death under the direction of Dr. Marc Cohn, Lousiana State University.
Chappell is the son of Jim and Cam Chappell of Columbia.
