Historic Columbia Foundation will offer its monthly Moonlight Cemetery Tours on Wednesday, June 18 at 8 pm and 8:30 pm at Elmwood Cemetery. Tours are scheduled during the full moon each month through October. A costumed interpreter will guide visitors on an intriguing tour providing details about the lives, burials, cemetery plots, and tombstones of families and prominent citizens from Columbia's 19th and early 20th centuries.

Elmwood Cemetery dates back to 1854 and is the resting place for more than 25,000 citizens as well as military personnel from several wars. Visitors on the tour will be led through portions of the cemetery highlighting the Victorian era and several variations of cemetery art. The cemetery art found at Elmwood ranges from the most elaborate styles to the more simplistic, which sometimes depict the meaning of the gravesite markers and the life of those buried there. While on the tour, visitors can also expect to see the first burial site in Elmwood Cemetery.

Tours are limited to 40 participants. Adult tickets are $10 for non- members, $5 for members. Tickets for children ages 6- 18 are $5 for non- members, $3 for members.
