USC DAR elects new officers

The University of South Carolina Daughters of the American Revolution had their last meeting until the fall, Wednesday, May 14th, at the Presbyterian Home of South Carolina. The chapter is currently 130 members strong. A report was given on naturalization, the process by which U.S. citizenship is conferred upon a foreign citizen.

Special recognition was given to Constance Myers for all her hard work and contributions of oral histories of suffragettes to the S.C. Archives.

The program was a DVD on the DAR Constitution Hall in Washington, D.C. The Hall, built in 1929, is a registered national historic landmark.

The facility is vast including the DAR library, museum & shop, DAR headquarters, and administration.

New officers were also installed during the meeting. They are Mittie McLean, chaplain; Catherine McBroom, registrar; Betty Odiorne, treasurer; Mary Caldwell, regent; Sylvia Waldron, recording secretary; Jean Arrants, first vice- regent; Beth Donelan, corresponding secretary; Betty Jones, second vice- regent; and Bonnie Wheeler, librarian.

The USC chapter of DAR will meet again in the fall. Any woman who can prove lineal, blood line descent from an ancestor who aided in achieving American independence is eligible for membership. For further information about possible membership, contact Catherine McBroom 345-7027.
