Thirty-something speaks
Reward cures the common cold
      Perfect attendance is a nice thought, but is it really something worth rewarding? According to Bertram Rantin's column in the June 4 edition of The State newspaper, 236 Lexington- Richland 5 fifth graders were given new bicycles and helmets for perfect attendance. It was part of a challenge issued by some local businessmen.

Paper doom
      Tabachi's pawn shop is broken into six times in four months. It's almost as if the burglars' union selected Tabachi's business as a piece- of- cake for break- ins. Insurance rates are going through the roof. Speaking of the roof, that's how burglars get into Tabachi's pawn shop. They cut a hole in the flat roof and lower themselves down into the store.

TV has sucked out our brains
      Last night, I dreamed Amy Matthews, star of Renovations , and Kari Bathroom Byron from Mythbusters were fighting over me. The two cable TV stars were screaming at each other, pulling hair, and throwing things. Kari was cocking the Gatlin gun the Mythbusters use to cut trees down when I sat upright in bed covered in cold sweat. It was horrible.
