Senior Health Fair features My Personal Health Record SC

The Senior Health Fair held at Seawell's in Columbia on May 14 was attended by over 200 seniors and other participants. The fair was sponsored by Medicare in support of My PHRSC, (My Personal Health Record South Carolina), which is a free and secure electronic record storing a person's Medicare claims history. A variety of local agencies provided information including home care services, diabetes foot and blood pressure screenings, managing medications tips, social programs, and hospice information.

Participants were welcomed by Reynard L. Murray, acting regional administrator CMS (Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services) for the Atlanta and Dallas Regions. Information about medicare was provided by Michael Harris, CMS health insurance specialist. Chis Greyhead, My PHRSC project officer CMS office of E- Health Standards and Services, and Seth Edlavitch, MyPHRSC project director, gave a brief description of My PHRSC. Bernice G Scott, councilwoman from District 10, also spoke.

Volunteers assisted seniors with accessing the My PHRSC site and inputing data from their medicare claims. These electronically stored personal health records will allow users to maintain an accurate and complete health history. This will provide an overall picture of health care issues and easy access to vital health information for authorized providers.
