Brittany Powell Brittany Powell Brittany Powell, a senior graduating this year, has been accepted to the Chowan University Graphics Summer Camp, an affiliate of The Kreuger School of Graphic Communications June 22-27 in Murfreesboro, North Carolina. Only 24 student applications are accepted from students in the Southeastern United States area.

Junior and seniors pursuing graphics careers will be exposed to web design and multi- media, Flexo and screen printing, digital photography and hands- on- printing. This gives them an opportunity to explore the field for graphics, as well as get a feel for what college life is about.

Deanna Piper, a senior at Spring Valley High School was recognized by Johnson Controls and Philips as the South Carolina winner of the Igniting Creative Energy Challenge--a program that asks students to develop creative ways to conserve energy and encourage sustainability. Deanna was awarded $1,000 for her school, courtesy of Johnson Controls and a 2GB flash audio player, courtesy of Philips.

Two MTC welding students, Caleb Fulwood and Christian Kerr, each won awards in the 27th annual South Carolina Technical College Welding Skills Competition April 25, 2008, at Tri- County Technical College. This was the first time that MTC students participated in the event.

Fulwood placed fourth in his category, groove welding. Kerr also placed fourth in his category, T- joints. For prizes, both students received professional welding equipment such as helmets and gloves.

Fulwood attended Airport High School and resides in West Columbia. Kerr attended Airport and Brookland- Cayce high schools and resides in Pine Ridge.

Both Kerr and Fulwood are enrolled in MTC's associate degree welding program.
