Director David O. Russell's independently financed political comedy Nailed, being filmed in Columbia, was put on hold twice in May due to interruptions in the actors' pay schedules. The actors' union, the Screen Actors Guild (SAG), called for the work shutdowns until up- to- date pay could resume. Two other unions, IATSE and the Teamsters, were in full agreement with SAG.

The work shutdowns drew wide attention due to the calibre of the movie's stars, Jake Gyllenhaal and Jessica Biel. Gyllenhaal received an Oscar nomination for his performance in Brokeback Mountain, and Biel is known for her role with the Universal Pictures comedy, I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry.

Apparently, as of Monday, May 19, timely pay checks could be distributed and SAG authorized resumption of the $25 million production.

The movie is being produced by a couple of veterans, Doug Wick and Lucy Fisher, and Londonbased Capitol Films is also backing the movie. The owners of Capitol Films are entrepreneurs Ron Tutor and David Bergstein, both of Los Angeles.

Founded in 1989, Capitol Films is credited to date with the distribution of more than 100 feature films. The company's running production schedule usually includes about five to ten films a year.

Other Capitol Films movie productions have been stopped or delayed due to lack of funds. The firm put on a substantive show at the Cannes Film Festival, including showings of The Edge of Love, Incendiary, The Last Word, The Oxford Murders, and Aparecidos, through Sunday, May 18.

Movies, like construction projects, can't get financed without a completion bond, so there's an industry- standard likelihood of seeing Nailed in a local theater within the year.
