West Columbian sure can spin a yarn

Storyteller Will Sox
Will Sox, a sixth grade honor roll student at Northside Middle School in West Columbia, was selected to be a featured storyteller at the Storytelling Festival of Carolina in Laurinburg, NC on April 26- 27. Sox was one of three students from North and South Carolina who was chosen in auditions held March 8.

Sox has participated in storytelling for four years, including an appearance at the National Storytelling Festival in Jonesborough in 2005. He was chosen as a national finalist at the National Youth Storytelling Showcase in 2005, 2006, 2007, and 2008 and was selected as the age group Torchbearer in 2005 and 2008. He is a member of the Lexington District Two Gifted and Talented Drama Program and sings in his church choir. Sox also enjoys performing in local theatre productions, reading, camping, hunting, and fishing.

The festival headliners are nationally acclaimed storytellers - Donald Davis, Len Cabral, Jay O'Callahan, and Diane Ferlatte. They will be joined by five adult regional tellers and the Youthful Voices to entertain festival- goers with stories during the two- day event.

The Storytelling Festival of Carolina is presented by the Storytelling Arts Center of the Southeast, a non- profit organization dedicated to the preservation, perpetuation, and promotion of storytelling.
