USC, National Society, DAR meets
     The University of South Carolina Chapter, National Society, Daughters of the American Revolution met at noon February 22 at the Fort Jackson Officers' Club for its annual luncheon. Chapter Regent Mary Caldwell presided.

Church makes a statement in neighborhood
      Imagine a neighborhood where people can take a pleasant stroll. There is little traffic. Neighbors call out greetings from porches, retirees cruise the avenues in golf carts or on scooters. As you come up the main street and past the nature sanctuary you can hear bells ringing softly, the Orthodox choir is singing vespers.

      The Rotary Foundation of Rotary International is seeking young professionals and business people interested in participating in an all expenses paid trip to the mid section of England. This is part of the Rotary Foundation's Group Study Exchange (GSE), a unique cultural and vocational program for business people and professionals ages of 25- 40.

Friends celebrate 100 years with Katherine Stallings Dunlap
      Katherine Stallings Dunlap, Converse College Class of '29, received the Distinguished Alumna Award. She was an education and psychology major at Converse and has devoted much of her life to public service. In 1951, Dunlap joined S.C. Governor James F. Byrnes' staff as an assistant. As each new adminstration came into office, Katherine was asked to remain.

S.C. State Museum exhibits Finding Priscilla's Children
     Illustration by Dana Coleman/courtesy of S.C. State Museum Dana Coleman's vision of a 10- year- old Priscilla, a slave child from Sierra Leone, can be seen in the S.C. State Museum's exhibit Finding Priscilla's Children, which uses documents to trace her descendants through seven generations and allowed her present- day descendants to discover their heritage from Sierra Leone. The exhibit will run through May 11, 2008.

Search for Sims Park rose
      For the last 15 years, I have actively searched for the Sims Park fence rose - deep scarlet, velvety, fragrant - that I loved as a child and my mother called a Paul Scarlet. I have bravely knocked on doors to inquire whenever I thought I spotted the rose in a yard.
